US marine killed in Iraq

BAGHDAD - A US marine was shot dead Friday in the western Iraqi city of Ramadi, the US military said in a statement.
"A marine assigned to the first battalion, fifth marine regiment ... was killed yesterday by enemy small-arms fire while conducting security operations in Ramadi," the statement read.
The death brings to 1,527 the number of US military personnel killed in Iraq since the US-led invasion a little over two years ago, according to a tally based on Pentagon figures.
