MOSCOW - Ousted Kyrgyz leader Askar Akayev asked Turkey`s help in rehabilitation of Kyrgyzstan and recovery of Kyrgyz economy.
Akayev spoke to A.A correspondent on Saturday.
When asked what will be the contributions of Turkey to Kyrgyzstan in current stage, Akayev said, ``I appreciate the support of Turkish government and people to democratic reforms as well as to development of market economy in Kyrgyzstan.``
``I think Turkey`s assistance to rehabilitation and reconstruction of Kyrgyzstan as well as recovery of small and medium scale enterprises is very important. Without this assistance, prosperity and economic growth of Kyrgyzstan is impossible,`` he added.
Regarding his interpretations about the future of his country and his plans for future, Akayev said, ``I plan to help my country to return to its constitutional frame again. Thus, I announced that I would like to help presidency elections to be just and transparent like parliamentary elections. By this way, my country may have a legitimate leader. Thus, I announced that I am ready to resign so that new leader will be elected completely in line with constitution. If my security is guaranteed, I am ready to return to Bishkek and resign.``
Akayev said, ``I don`t think that my return to Kyrgyzstan would further worsen the situation,`` noting that, ``Kyrgyzstan is my motherland.``
``If my security is guaranteed and when a constitutional order is set up in the country, I am ready to return to Bishkek and resign,`` Akayev said.
``I was getting prepared to hand over presidency to a legally elected person on October 30th, 2005. I was to retire when period of my mission expired. I want to return to my country to assist my country and the officials, not to extend period of my mission,`` Akayev noted.
Stating that he talked to the parliament in Kyrgyzstan, Akayev said parliamentary elections took place openly, honestly and fairly. He said organizations like Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) confirmed this with several drawbacks.
``Those who lost the parliamentary elections realized that they could not win presidential elections that would be held on October 30th. Opposition leaders were unsuccessful. To this end, they preferred coup. They wanted cancellation of results of elections immediately after the coup. They later wanted resignation of the president. I announced that people elected me as the head of state and proposed to resort to referendum. They opposed referendum,`` Akayev emphasized.
Stating that he did not have any plans for March 24th, Akayev said, ``they told me they wanted to hold a democratic demonstration like those in Georgia and Ukraine.``
``They immediately attacked the government building in the demonstration. I left the building half an hour before the raid. They have beaten my press secretary. They gave a serious damage to my assistant and my national guards. My applying to weapons would be start of civil war so I decided to leave the country for sometime,`` he noted.
Akayev said he would stay in Russia if he does not return to his country.
``I would like to express my gratitude to Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer and the Turkish government for the support they expended to us during our 14-year of independence. Turkey was the first country which came to assist Kyrgyzstan`s independence. My first visit abroad was to Turkey. Turkey helped us for improvement of democracy`` Akayev said.
