Sudan rejects UN Security Council resolution on Darfur

KHARTOUM- The ruling party, the National Congress, here decided to reject the latest UN Security Council resolution which says Sudanese war crimes suspects should be tried by the International Criminal Court (ICC), a government statement said Friday.
Secretary general of the ruling party Ibrahim Omar denied that his party was pitting the nation directly against the international community, saying that the UN resolution was unfair and dismissive of Sudan's efforts to resolve the situation in Darfur.
Answering reporters' questions here, he pointed out that the government had not received from the UN any lists of the names of those accused of crimes of humanity in Darfur.
Omar furthermore discounted the possibility that his government would sever its relations with the nations that fostered the presentation of the resolution regarding Darfur to the Security Council.
The Security Council had adopted the resolution yesterday with a vote of 12 out of 15 in favor of it, with the abstention of four states: the US, Algeria, Brazil, and China.
