Er: Our Mission Is To Enforce, Not Interpret Laws Adopted By Parliament

ANKARA - Turkish General Security Directorate spokesman Ramazan Er said on Friday that the mission of the police was not to interpret the laws, but to enforce them.
Responding to questions of journalists about the delay of the implementation of the new penal code, Er said that ''just like no public official can have objections to the laws adopted by the parliament, the objection of the police is not possible too...The issue of delaying the implementation of the penal code is the decision of the parliament.''
Giving information about the operation of the Turkish police in Azerbaijan, Er said that Azerbaijani police requested their help after kidnapping of a bank director's wife and the killing of a journalist in that country. Noting that a Turkish police team went to Azerbaijan on March 6th, Er said that the perpetrators of both incidents were caught as a result of Azerbaijani-Turkish police cooperation.
