NEW YORK - Turkey launched a tourism promotion campaign in the United States, one of the leading tourism markets in the world, the Turkey's Culture and Promotion Attache's Office in New York said on Thursday.
The office said that Turkey aimed to reach 40 million Americans with this campaign, and noted that history, culture and nature were highlighted in the promotion campaign.
Meltem Onhon, Turkey's deputy attache in New York, said that the campaign were carried out in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Washington.
Drawing attention that positive effects of efficient promotion of Turkey in the United States were seen in tourism statistics, Onhon said that the number of U.S. citizens visiting Turkey increased by 31 percent in 2004 when compared with 2003, and reached 291,102.
Onhon pointed out that the number of U.S. tourists travelling to Turkey rose by 35 percent in January and February of 2005 when compared with the same months of 2004, and added that the promotion campaign would continue till the end of October.
