Erdogan: Turkey Will Act In Line With Interests Of Northern Cyprus

RABAT - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Thursday that Turkey would act in line with interests of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
Prime Minister Erdogan, who is currently paying a state visit to Morocco, held a news conference on the last day of his tour of North Africa.
When asked whether Turkey's signing the additional protocol of the Ankara Agreement with the European Union (EU) would mean recognition of the Greek Cypriot side, Prime Minister Erdogan said, ''as the EU officials also said, Turkey's signing the protocol would not mean a recognition. Turkey and the EU exchanged letters about text of the protocol. Turkey will put a reservation in the protocol to prevent any misunderstanding.''
''Turkey will act in line with interests of the TRNC. All our efforts aim to find a solution to the Cyprus issue and make the TRNC a state recognized by the whole world,'' he said.
Replying to a question whether Abdullah Ocalan, the head of the terrorist organization of PKK, would be retried, Prime Minister Erdogan said, ''this issue does not take place on our agenda. Attempts to bring such an issue onto agenda of Turkey will lead uneasiness in the country. The European Court of Human Rights will make a decision. Then, Turkey will decide what to do in line with the laws.''
