PINELLAS PARK, Florida - US civil rights activist Reverend Jesse Jackson on Tuesday went to meet the family of brain-damaged woman Terri Schiavo as she entered a 12th day without a food lifeline.
"I feel so passionate about this injustice," Jackson said of the case as he entered the Florida hospice where Schiavo is cared for to meet the woman's family who are at loggerheads with Schiavo's husband over whether she should be left to die.
"We pray for a miracle because we believe in miracles," he added.
Schiavo's feeding tube was disconnected on March 18 and the family's desperate efforts to get courts and even the US Congress to order the lifeline reinserted have failed.
Michael Schiavo says his wife, who has been kept alive for 15 years since suffering severe brain damage, should be left to die as she had told him she did not want to be kept alive in such circumstances.
The husband's lawyer has said Schiavo's respiratory rate is starting to suffer and she has two or three more days to live at most.
