ANKARA- Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said on Tuesday that Turkey expected the presidential and parliamentary elections can be held soon in Kyrgyzstan.
In a speech delivered at the Turkish parliament to his fellow Justice and Development deputies, Gul said, "We wish that presidential and parliamentary elections will soon take place in Kyrgyzstan. We hope that the Kyrgyz people will elect their own new leaders."
On the current situation in Kyrgyzstan, Gul said the new leadership in Kyrgyzstan was comprised of friends of Turkey and that there was no anti-Turkish sentiment in the central Asian country.
"We are closely monitoring the developments that took place in Kyrgyzstan. Those figures who now rule the republic of Kyrgyzstan are known by us as friends of the Turks," said Gul, adding that everything was under control in Kyrgyzstan.
A team of Turkish experts have been in Kyrgyzstan since a mass protest swept Kyrgyz President Askar Akayev from power on Thursday.
It is reported that the experts had held meeting with the new leaders of Kyrgyzstan. Both sides had assured each other that mutual relations will be boosted at a better pace.
Turkish Foreign Ministry also sent two planes to evacuate Turkish citizens from Kyrgyzstan. A total of 242 Turks, mostly women, children and student, have returned to Turkey.
