KUALA LUMPUR - Dozens of people have been killed on Nias Island in Indonesia following an 8.2 earthquake that jolted the west coast of Sumatra tonight, BBC reported. The Indonesian television said no sign of tsunami has been reported yet. On the other hand, Antara News Agency said people in Banda Aceh are recollecting the misery and catastrophe they went through last December 26 when they felt a strong quake measuring estimated at 6 on the Richter scale that jolted Banda Aceh tonight.
The agency monitored here said that the tremor triggered panic among the people.
Some refugees at Mata camp ran out of their shelters chanting "God is the Greatest" following the quake which lasted about five minutes.
A resident of Banda Aceh, Syahril (48) said this was the biggest quake in the past month.
The quake has claimed no lives nor caused serious damage.
