ELAZIG - German Ambassador to Turkey Wolf-Ruthart Born said on Monday that the German government supported Turkey's efforts in its European Union (EU) membership process.
Born, who is currently visiting the eastern city of Elazig, met Deputy Governor Ayhan Ozkan, Mayor Suleyman Selmanoglu and Firat University Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdi Muz.
Addressing students at the Firat University, Born said that the German government had done everything in its power at the EU Summit on December 17th, 2004 for opening of entry talks between Turkey and the EU on October 3rd.
The German government supports Turkey's efforts in its EU membership process, he said.
Noting that the Turkish government should make the necessary changes, Born said that the process could take 10 or 15 years.
When recalled that European parliamentarians attended Nevruz celebrations and supported the PKK, Born said that the PKK was a terrorist organization, and its activities were banned, adding that European parliamentarians' visits aimed to get information about Turkey.
