ANKARA - Romanian Foreign Minister Razvan Ungureanu said on Friday that there were very good relations between Turkey and Romania, stressing that Turkey became the fourth biggest trade partner of Romania with its annual trade volume of 3 billion dollars.
Responding to questions of the A.A, Ungureanu said that Turks had important investments in food, textiles and banking sectors of Romania and noted that the story of the Turkish investors in Romania was a real success story.
Ungureanu stressed that Turkish investors were the first businessmen who came to Romania to make investment, noting that ''they opened important doors and they have become good examples for businessmen of other countries.'' He remarked that Romania attributed special importance to formation of direct energy lines between the two countries.
Upon a question about EU membership of Romania, Ungureanu said he believed that Romania would complete integration with EU in 2007 as it was planned. He stressed that Romanian government undertook significant reforms in the area of justice and particularly it took measures to prevent corruption in the country.
When reminded of the comments saying that EU postponed beginning of entry talks with Croatia and that decision constituted a warning for Turkey, Ungureanu stated that enlargement of the EU was one of the most important historical events for Europe and that the issue of enlargement had become once again a matter of politics rather than a technical matter.
''This development should be understood by Turkey and Croatia as they have to deal with it,'' he said.
