ISTANBUL - ''Greek Cypriot administration cannot act freely in the world any more as they want. It is now facing a big difficulty and isolation. We have to corner them now. This can be provided by lifting of isolation (imposed on Turkish Cypriots),'' said Premier Mehmet Ali Talat of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
Talat held a conference on ''EU Process and Cyprus'' at Bahcesehir University in Istanbul on Friday.
''Today policies of TRNC and Turkey are approved, adopted and appreciated by the world. The isolation which was imposed on the TRNC in the past is now being imposed on Greek Cypriot side. Today, Greek Cypriot side cannot act as freely as in the past. They are now facing a big difficulty and isolation. They are now facing attitudes which we experienced in the past,'' said Talat.
''We want isolation (of TRNC) to be lifted. Because this will increase the life standard of Turkish Cypriots and bring Greek Cypriot administration to the table again,'' noted Talat.
''Turkey and the TRNC should pursue their theses which envisage resolution. We have to corner Greek Cypriot administration by laying the factors like intransigence and intolerance on Greek Cypriot side. This can be provided with lifting of isolation and restrictions. If we achieve this, we can take important steps and gain advantages in resolution of Cyprus issue,'' said Talat.
Stressing that the resolution of Cyprus issue will be more difficult after October 3rd (the date when Turkey will start EU entry talks), Talat said, ''if Cyprus issue is not solved until October 3rd, Turkey will face this issue in each step during talks.''
''We want important developments to occur in Cyprus issue until Turkey will start EU entry talks. From now on, we do not have any other alternatives than pursuing new policies which are in harmony with world facts in stability,'' said Talat.
