Blast at pipeline in Turkey

ANKARA - An explosion blamed on Kurdish rebels occurred on Friday at an oil pipeline in southeastern Turkey, causing material damage, local officials said.
The attack targeted a stretch of the pipeline near the village of Taskoy in Mardin province, the local deputy governor Ali Candan said in a statement carried by Anatolia news agency.
It was perpetrated by members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), who had planted explosives at the site, he said.
"Only a small amount of crude oil leaked out as there was no flow of oil through the pipeline," the statement said.
The PKK, also known as KONGRA-GEL, has been blamed for a series of attacks on security forces and other targets in Turkey's mainly Kurdish southeast since last June when the group ended a five-year unilateral ceasefire with the government.
The rebels waged a bloody campaign for Kurdish self-rule in the region between 1984 and 1999.
