PINELLAS PARK, Florida - Florida Governor Jeb Bush said Wednesday Terri Schiavo is probably in a "state of minimal consciousness" and not in a persistent vegetative state as doctors have said.
"The neurologist review indicates that Terri may have been misdiagnosed and is more likely she is in a state of minimal consciousness rather than in a persistent vegetative state," Bush said at a news conference.
"This new information raises serious concerns and warrants immediate action," he said.
Bush called on Florida's state Senate to quickly pass a law aimed at saving Schiavo's life.
Her parents have lost a bid in federal court to have her feeding tube reinserted after a Florida state court had it removed on Friday. The parents have vowed to take the case to the US Supreme Court.
The 41-year-old woman has been in what doctors call a persistent vegetative state for 15 years.
Schiavo's husband Michael says his wife would not want to be kept alive artificially and should be allowed to die, while her parents say her condition could improve with treatment.
