HAMBURG, Germany - German first division side SV Hamburg are in talks with Japanese international striker Naohiro Takahara about a lucrative new deal to keep him at the AOL-Arena.
Takahara, 25, is out of contract at the end of the current campaign but Hamburg manager Thomas Doll wants to retain the in-form striker's services.
Takahara is enjoying his finest season in Hamburg's colours, having scored six league goals and established himself in the staring 11 under Doll.
"I am really enjoying my football at the moment and want to score some goals to help Hamburg reach the UEFA Cup," said Takahara.
Takahara is currently on international duty with Japan ahead of their World Cup qualifier with Iran in Tehran on Friday and is expected to step up negotiations on his return to north Germany.
