Moderate quake rocks Taiwan

TAIPEI - An earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale rocked Taiwan Wednesday, the Seismology Center said, but there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
The quake hit at 12:47 pm (0447 GMT) with an epicenter 12.8 kilometers (7.94 miles) southwest of the northern coastal town of Ilan. The earthquake originated 69.5 kilometers underground.
Taiwan's worst earthquake, measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale, struck in September 1999 and left some 2,400 people dead.
