Mehmet Barlas, a columnist of the Sabah daily, said that ``certain circles assess the U.S. ambassador in Ankara Eric Edelman`s decision to resign as his failure. Some ask if he would not have resigned if he was successful.`` Barlas`s article reads:
``There is a reality we must not forget. Aside from a few exceptions, an ambassador`s success or failure does not depend on his personal success but rather on the ties between his/her home country and the country where he/she is presiding.
Our reaction to the U.S. policy in Iraq only causes more tension and will not result in a change of policy by the Bush administration. (Plus) It would only make things tougher for the new U.S. ambassador in Ankara.``
