BISHKEK - Opposition supporters in Kyrgyzstan have stormed a government building in a southern city amid continuing protests over a disputed parliamentary poll in the Central Asian nation, one of the opposition parties said Monday.
An official with the Popular Movement said that hundreds of protestors stormed a regional administration building in the city of Osh.
The ITAR-TASS news agency quoted unnamed law enforcement officials as saying that police around the building did not offer any resistance to the crowd.
Weeklong demonstrations over results of a legislative election in the Central Asian country were reported to have turned violent on Sunday, with four people reported dead among the protestors and four among law enforcement officers.
The opposition got only a handful of seats in the 75-seat parliament following a runoff voting round on March 13.
The opposition has charged that the administration of President Askar Akayev rigged the poll in order to pack the chamber with supporters ahead of a presidential election in October.
Akayev, who has served as Kyrgyzstan`s president since the breakup of the Soviet Union, has vowed not to run in the fall election.
