DUBAI - A previously unknown group has claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing which killed a Briton and injured 12 people in the Qatari capital Doha, according to a statement posted on the Internet Monday.
The group, calling itself "Jund al-Sham Organization," (or Organization of Soldiers of the Levant), said in a "statement number one" posted on an Islamist website that it would soon issue another statement about "the martyrdom-seeking operation carried out by a lion from Jund al-Sham in Qatar."
There was no way to verify the authenticity of the statement, signed by the group`s "military wing."
Qatari authorities are still probing the Saturday night bombing, although they have said it was carried out by an Egyptian with his own car.
