BAGHDAD - A US soldier was killed in action on Sunday in Iraq's restive Al-Anbar province, west of Baghdad, the US military said Monday.
It said in a statement the soldier was assigned to the Marine Expeditionary Force and was killed while "conducting security and stability operations". It gave no further details.
US troops continue to battle insurgents in the vast province bordering Syria after a massive assault on the area's former rebel stronghold of Fallujah in November that left hundreds of people dead and the city in ruins.
The latest US death raised to 1,511 the number of soldiers and military personnel killed in Iraq since the US invasion two years ago, according to an estimate based on the latest tally from the Pentagon.
