Iraq recalls envoy to Jordan in tat-for-tat move

BAGHDAD - Iraq is recalling its ambassador to Jordan in a tit-for-tat move against its western neighbour after Amman withdrew its envoy to protest anti-Jordanian protests here, a foreign ministry official said Sunday.
"We will recall our ambassador from Amman for consultations," the official, who asked not to be further identified, told AFP, adding: "The relations between the two countries are in crisis mode."
Hundreds of Shiites have been demonstrating outside the Jordanian embassy in Baghdad over the past week burning the country's flag and cursing King Abdullah II, in protest against the alleged involvement of a Jordanian in a deadly suicide bombing last month.
