US soldier shot dead in Baghdad attack

BAGHDAD - A US soldier was killed on Friday when his patrol was attacked with small-arms in Baghdad, said the US military.
"A Task Force Baghdad soldier died from a gunshot wound when his patrol in northeast Baghdad came under small-arms attack at around 3:30 pm (12:30 GMT) on March 18," a statement said.
The death raised to 1,509 the number of soldiers and military personnel killed in Iraq since the US invasion two years ago, according to an estimate based on the latest tally from the Pentagon.
