WASHINGTON - Uighur dissident Rebiya Kadeer arrived in the United States late Thursday following her release from nearly six years of detention in China, according to Radio Free Asia.
Kadeer, 58, ranks among the leading members of China`s Uighur ethnic group in the largely Muslim autonomous region of Xinjiang Uighur. The dissident landed in Chicago on a flight from China, she is en route to Washington, according to RFA.
Chinese authorities released her on medical parole on Thursday just ahead of a weekend visit to Beijing by US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
