ROME - Turkish Minister of Industry and Trade Ali Coskun has remarked today (Monday) that Turkey has done its homework of economic reforms and now has a competitive free market.
Coskun arrived in Rome yesterday (Sunday) upon an invitation by the Italian Production Activities Minister Antonio Marzano and State Minister in charge of international trading Adolfo Urso.
Coskun met Italian Industry Encouragement Council General Director Luigi Corbo this morning and had breakfast with Corbo. Later, Coskun attended a meeting of the Turkish-Italian Follow-Up Committee.
In his meeting with Urso, Coskun indicated that Turkey utilizes high-tech in its economy. ''Turkey has successfully created a market that is competitive not only in Europe but also globally.''
Coskun remarked that the Turkish government made economic reforms so as to encourage foreign investment.
''Minister Urso and an accompanying delegation visited Turkey between December 13th-15th, 2004. At that time, our governments signed a 'Protocol of Good Will','' said Coskun.
''The Turkish-Italian Follow-Up Committee will contribute to our excellent commercial ties,'' commented Coskun. Coskun added that a legal framework has been established between Turkey and Italy to promote ties in all fields, including transportation, high-technology, agriculture, health, culture and tourism.
According to Coskun, Turkey will continue to make very prominent reforms in the economic arena which will help the European Union in the long run. ''We are confident that the Follow-Up Committee will bring fruitful results for both Turkey and Italy.''
Minister Coskun and his delegation will fly to Milan from Rome later today.
