LOS ANGELES - The film "Robots" conquered the North American box office over the weekend, raking in an estimated 36.5 million dollars in its debut, according to preliminary data released Sunday.
Encino-based firm Exhibitor Relations also reported that last week's leader, "The Pacifier," dropped to second place, with an expected take of 18 million dollars.
"Be Cool" was third with 10.3 million dollars, followed by the debut of "Hostage" (9.8 million) and "Hitch" (8.7 million).
Oscar-winning "Million Dollar Baby" was in sixth place after 13 weeks since its release. It was projected to gross 5.07 million dollars this weekend, boosting the film's total North American take to about 83.9 million dollars.
Rounding out the top 10 were "Diary of a Mad Black Woman" (five million),
"Constantine" (3.6 million), "Man of the House" (1.8 million) and "Cursed" (1.5 million).
Final figures are expected Monday.
