ANKARA - Turkish Armed Forces have announced today (Saturday) that it will procure 91 new offensive helicopters.
The Defense Industry Council has authorized the Defense Industry Directorate General (SSM) to collect bids from various defense corporations. ''While we wish to contribute to the manufacture of these new helicopters with our local engineers, we will invite companies from all around the world to submit bids,'' said a Turkish defense official.
Competing to win the Turkish defense tender on new helicopters will be French Eurcopter, U.S. Bell Textron Apache and Cobra, Russian Kamov and Italian Agusta groups.
The new helicopter procurement is one of dozens of programs planned by the Turkish defense industry in the upcoming months.
