ROME - Vatican television on Friday showed footage of Pope John Paul II speaking at a mass, the first such images since he underwent throat surgery at Rome`s Gemelli hospital on February 24, the ANSA news agency reported.
The pope was shown sitting in an armchair before an altar and wearing a purple vestment, typical of the Lenten season.
People who saw the footage said the 84-year-old head of the Roman Catholic Church looked reasonably well.
