HANOI - Seven Vietnamese fishermen died and 17 are still missing after bad weather capsized four boats, border guards said Thursday.
The boats, carrying eight fishermen each, sunk 200 miles (320 kilometres) from Con Son island off central Khanh Hoa province on March 4 due to strong winds.
Of the 32 people on board, only eight were rescued by passing foreign ships.
"We have to wait another three days to be sure about the fate of the missing fishermen," one border guard soldier said. "Many local boats have not returned home and we hope that they were rescued by some of them."
