BERLIN - Industrial output in Germany rose strongly in January, buoyed by increased activity in the key manufacturing, data published by the German Economy and Labour Ministry showed on Wednesday.
German industrial output rose by 3.1 percent in January, after already edging up by 0.9 percent in December, the ministry said in a statement.
Economic activity was up primarily in the manufacturing and construction sectors, while energy output declined, the ministry noted.
Manufacturing output rose by 3.8 percent in January from December and construction output was up by 0.7 percent, while output in the energy sector tumbled by 2.8 percent.
Using a two-month comparison to iron out short-term fluctuations, pan-German industrial output rose by 1.7 percent in December and January combined from the figure for October and November, the ministry calculated.
