PRESIDENT EROGLU: “TURKISH CYPRIOT PEOPLE HAS RUN OUT OF PATIENCE”
President DerviÅŸ EroÄŸlu has said that a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus Problem can only be reached if the reality that there are two states and two peoples in Cyprus is accepted.
The President’s words came during a visit paid to him by a delegation from the Turkish War Veterans and Combatants Society’s Hatay Branch.
Speaking during the visit, President DerviÅŸ EroÄŸlu said that the Cyprus Turkish people lived in freedom and security thanks to the 1974 Turkish peace operation.
He said that a sustainable solution to the Cyprus Problem could only be reached if the reality that there are two separate states and peoples on the island is accepted.
Pointing out that the Cyprus Turkish Side strived to reach a settlement which safeguarded the interests of the Cyprus Turkish people and ensured that the bitter experiences of the past would not be relived; EroÄŸlu complained that the Greek Cypriot Side rejected all proposals and settlement offers brought to the negotiating table.
“The reason for this is the Greek Cypriot Side lacks a motivation for a settlement because it enjoys the recognition of the international community as well as EU membership” he added.
Noting that the Cyprus Turkish people had run out of patience waiting for a solution to happen, the President underlined the need to reach a conclusion in the ongoing Cyprus negotiations process.
