EroÄŸlu comments on Israeli demand for air and naval base in Cyprus

Assessing reports that Israel demands air and naval base from the Southern Greek Cypriot administration, the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus DerviÅŸ EroÄŸlu said that if Israel has troops and an air base in Cyprus, the Southern Greek Cypriot administration will get in more trouble.

Replying to questions put to him by TRT AVAZ, EroÄŸlu said that he did not believe that the Greek Cypriot side would take such a decision that would cause annoyance.

EroÄŸlu was reminded that the leader of the Southern Greek Cypriot administration Christofias had demanded Netanyahu that Israeli businessmen should not invest in the TRNC and Israel for its part had demanded an air and naval base.

"If they accept Israel’s conditions they will get in more trouble. They will be disturbed in the EU and because of us and motherland Turkey. Also, if Israel has troops and an air base in Cyprus, the Southern Greek Cypriot administration will get in more trouble in future. I do not believe that the Greek Cypriot side will take such a decision that will cause annoyance" EroÄŸlu said.
