BEIRUT - Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, head of the powerful Shiite movement Hezbollah, warned the United States not to interfere in Lebanon and vowed to defeat any US military intervention.
"If the American fleet lands in Lebanon, it will be defeated," Nasrallah said at a massive pro-Syrian demonstration in the Lebanese capital.
He repeated Hezbollah's rejection of international demands for an end to Syria's military presence in Lebanon.
"The Syrian presence is not only military... Syria is in our hearts, our spirits and our souls," he said.
"We are united here to above all thank Syria, the Syrian people and the Syrian army which has stayed by our side for many long years and is still with us."
