President Abdullah Gül continues his contacts in the U.S. Turkish economy was on the agenda of President Gül who attended Chicago Council on Global Affairs.
Gül stressed that Turkish economy has grown despite the crisis. Stating that Turkey is the second most rapidly growing country after China despite the economic crisis in the world, Gül said: "political stability is of utmost importance for Turkey to become more powerful and be more effective in foreign policy and from this perspective we made reforms to lift all obstacles before us. Economic reforms added a new vision to our point of view."
Gül also said that cultural steps taken regarding minority and cultural rights have invigorated Turkey. President Gül left for San Francisco after completion of his contacts in Chicago. President Gül first met with Turkish citizens in the city and gave a message of unity. San Francisco mayor Edwin Lee presented the key of the city to President Gül who called on Turks to act together when their country is in question. Stressing that strong presence of Turkish community in the U.S. is a source of pride for them, President Gül said: "You can be useful to your country and serve it while leading a happy life here. Therefore we want the Turkish community to act in solidarity". "When serving Turkey is in question you should join your energy and bring out synergy. As the Turkish President, my wish is that you should act in unity when Turkey is in question" he said.
President Gül will make a speech at Stanford University and observations in Silicon Valley. President Gül will also meet with Turkish entrepreneurs in the city. The visit is expected to contribute to economic and technological cooperation between the two countries.
