EU Minister and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bağış met with Belgian Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Didier Reynders in Brussels.

Positive agenda between Turkey and the EU, visa issue and the future of the Cyprus issue were taken up at talks. Talks lasted about an hour.

Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Reynders said that they spoke about what could be done to accelerate Turkey’s accession talks and lift visa requirements. "We are ready to do our part" Reynders said.

Bağış for his part said that Belgium is a staunch supporter of Turkey in the international arena regarding Turkey’s membership process. Reynders said that they could make initiatives in the settlement of the Cyprus issue and could host summits for this purpose. Bağış gave the message that they could agree to a meeting if the two sides on the island and guarantor countries Greece and Britain would be invited.
