EROGLU: “EMBARGOES IMPOSED ON US AS IF WE ARE TO BLAME FOR THE UNSOLUTION”

President DerviÅŸ Eroglu indicated that TRNC has been under embargoes and only recognized by Turkey and recorded that under these conditions he continued negotiations in case there shall be an agreement.

Stressing that even if the Greek Side refused every possibility until today embargoes have been imposed on the TRNC Eroglu said that: “Embargoes have been imposed on us as if we are to blame for the un-solution”

Recording that they are continuing negotiations in order to reach an agreement Eroglu said: “the world has to know that the Greek side does not have the intention to agree or share anything with us.”

“If the Greek Side has the intention to agree with us then the Peres De Guellar document in 1986 and the Annan Plan in 2004 were to be accepted.”

Eroglu said that those lived in the past shall not be repeated and an agreement based on the realities of today would be viable and permanent, otherwise we would come to a point where pre 1974 would be lived again.

KÜÇÜK: “IT IS BETTER TO REVIEW TRNC CONSTITUTION”

Prime Minister İrsen Küçük said that it was better to review the TRNC constitution as it was done in the motherland Turkey.

Kucuk said: “I think that it would be better to discuss this with the Speaker of the Assembly and then with the political parties.”

Küçük said that in spite of discussions of the presidential system there is parliamentary system in the TRNC and added that there is no need for such a change in the TRNC.

PRIME MINISTER KUCUK: ‘BUILDING PETROLEUM FILLING PLANTS IN YEDIKONUK WAS REMOVED FROM AGENDA’

Prime Minister Irsen Kucuk said that because of CED’s report being negative, building of petroleum filling plants in Yedikonuk was removed from government’s agenda. Prime Minister Kucuk made this statement during the opening ceremony of 10th. Traditional Eco Day organized in Buyukkonuk.

Stressing that it is not possible for the government to make actions contrary to the constitution and laws that’s why, building petroleum filling plants in Yedikonuk was removed from government’s agenda he added that there are some companies which were applied to build petroleum filling plants in the country. Kucuk said that government has problems to decide about the regions in which investments will be made because of lack of physical plan in the country.

GULDEN PLUMER KUCUK: ‘THERE IS NOT ANY DECISION FOR SARAJEVO’

Turkish Cypriot member of Missing Persons Committee Gulden Plumer Kucuk stated that the tender announced by UNDP related to determining identities of missing persons was given to the International Committee of Missing Persons in Bosnia. Adding that Greek Cypriot press noted that she would go to Sarajevo to take the samples of bones, Kucuk said that the news was not reflected the truth.

Moreover, Kucuk added that identification process took a long time because Greek Cypriot member of the Missing Persons Committee was not appointed for a long time and there are disputes in Greek Cypriot Genetic Institute.

FIRST RUSSIAN NEWSPAPER IN NORTH CYPRUS

The first Russian newspaper ‘hello’ was published in the North Cyprus. The first issue of the newspaper which was prepared with the cooperation of Anahtar Agency and the Association of North Cyprus Russian Language Speakers was distributed throughout the country.

According to the statement of Chief Editor and the Director of Anahtar Agency, Emin Akkor, the newspaper started to be distributed monthly and as free of charge.

Adding that their target group is people who live in the North side or who have been as tourists, Akkor said that they aim to offer a more comfortable life to these people.

SANER “PORTS OF TRNC WILL BE RESTRUCTURED”

Minister of Public Works and Transportation Ersan Saner, who had examined the ports of Mersin, Samsun and Iskenderun in Turkey within the context of studies of restructuring of the ports, has returned back to Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

Minister Saner stated that the ports in TRNC, which are in a strategic location in Mediterranean, will be restructured in order to make them more purposive.

Saner said “the ports in TRNC will be restructured according to the requirements of today. This also provides contributions to the projects we will produce. It will direct our vision”

He added that “TRNC is in a strategic location in Mediterranean and by the side of TRNC there is a powerful country, Turkey. We think that to use this strategic location properly with Turkey will provide us economical benefits”.

“IT WILL BE A DESTRUCTION FOR SOUTH CYPRUS IF GREECE STARTS TO RE-USE DRACHMA”

It was stated that it will be a “destruction” for South Cyprus if Greece, which falls on hard times and faces with the risk of exclusion from Euro zone for the reason of economic crisis, starts to re-use the old currency drachma.

According to the news in the Greek Cypriot daily Kathimerini the analysts evaluated the situation and stated that exclusion of Greece from Euro zone will negatively affect the Greek Cypriot economy. Re-using of drachma will affect everybody from the poorest to richest groups, the purchasing power will decrease and the salaries will be decreased.

ISRAEL TO DEPLOY 20,000 COMMANDOS TO SOUTH CYPRUS

Israel plans to deploy 20,000 commandos in South Cyprus in order to safeguard the natural gas plant which will be constructed.

Anatolia news agency reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Greek Cypriot Administration Leader, Dimitris Christofias, met on 16 February 2012 and some of the details of the cooperation agreement that they made came out. If the partners agree, 10,000 personnel that would work at the plant are to be brought in from Israel with their families, increasing the number of Israeli citizens in the Limasol district of the South Cyprus to nearly 30,000. On the other hand the high number of Israelis in Greek Cyprus would present a security issue, which Netanyahu suggested be solved by sending as many as 20,000 Israeli commandos to safeguard both the Israelis and the natural gas plant, so that Israel is planning to place more than 50,000 Israeli Citizens to South Cyprus and create a small Israel, the agency said.

The Anatolia news agency further cited a Greek Cypriot source which said ‘if you give an inch to Israel it will take a mile and Israel is coming to South Cyprus to settle down not to go back’. In addition to those in his visit to South Cyprus on16 February 2012 Netanyahu asked about the land in the Andreas Papandreou military airbase in Paphos.
