China says one-country, two systems its basic approach to Taiwan

BEIJING - China Tuesday said that "one country, two systems" is its basic approach to Taiwan and made clear that it reserved the right to use force as it outlined its anti-secession law aimed at the island.
"Peaceful reunification and one country, two systems are our basic approach to achieve peaceful reunification," Wang Zhaoquo, a vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress told the parliament.
But he also repeated that China was entitled to use force to check secessionist activities.
"We have never committed ourselves to give up the use of force. No country will accept separatist activities. Every country has a right to protect its national sovereignty and territorial integrity."
