WASHINGTON - Turkish Minister for National Education Huseyin Celik has told the Anadolu Agency (A.A) that Turkey will be the largest recipient for the Fulbright scholarships in the upcoming months in Europe.
In an exclusive interview with the A.A, Celik remarked that both Turkish and American academicians will cooperate in exchanging students more so than in the past. ''In the past, we used to send students to the U.S.A. for their studies. Yet we wish to build on our excellent ties and start receiving more students to Anatolian universities.''
The American administration has announced that it will allocate about 1,700,000 U.S. dollars to the Fulbright scholarship program. ''Turkey used to spare 280,000 U.S. dollars for the Fulbright scholarships. We have decided to raise this amount to 500,000 U.S. dollars,'' stressed Celik.
Celik will get together with Turkish students studying in various U.S. junior colleges and universities on Monday, March 7, 2005.
Accompanied by the International Education Chair of the Turkish Ministry of National Education Ibrahim Ozdemir, Celik will hold talks with important American dignitaries in the field of education.
