Friends of Syria Meeting on April 1

Ahead of the April 1 meeting, Syrian opposition groups met in Istanbul to evaluate the situation.

Syrian National Council was accepted as the representative of Syrian opposition.

This decision is significant in terms of uniting the voice of the opposition groups.

Syrian National Council is also expected to be declared as the legal representative of the Syrian people at the Friends of Syria Meeting on April 1.

April 1 Meeting is also expected to state support for Kofi Annan’s plan.

Funds will be raised to support the opposition and international community will be urged to press harder on the Assad regime.

Turkish officials say there is no preparation for a buffer zone on the border with Syria, but if the situation requires certain steps to protect Turkey’s interests, Turkey will make use of the rights foreseen by international law.
