DAVUTOGLU DISCUSSED CYPRUS ISSUE WITH UNSG BAN

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that the Cyprus issue could not be solved due to the lack of confidence and political will. Davutoglu added that the Greek Cypriots, who unilaterally represented whole of the island, were not ready to share the state with the Turkish Cypriots.

Davutoglu stressed that he expressed, at his contacts in Brussels on Friday (23 March), the view that: “If there is a political will, Cyprus issue can be solved in three days, if not, it can last for more than three centuries”

Pointing out that Greek Cypriots are engaging in efforts to take over the EU term-presidency unilaterally by playing for time, Davutoglu said: “It is high time for all parties related to Cyprus to take responsibility on the Cyprus issue. It is also high time for the United Nations to become more active. This is the only way for progress. Otherwise, we will not hold any direct or indirect contact or dialogue with the Greek Cypriot administration under the title of EU term president.

Davutoglu continued: “the Greek Cypriot administration desires the continuation of status quo and division of the island and expects the Turkish Cypriots to give up their rights and accept to be a mere minority and say ‘all decisions will be made by the Greek Cypriots’. This will not happen. There will be no return to 1960s, when the Turkish Cypriots were living in ghettos.”

Ahmet Davutoglu discussed the Cyprus negotiation process and the latest developments in Syria with the United Nations Secretary General Ban ki Moon. Within the framework of Brussels contacts Davutoglu also came together with the Special UN Envoy to Syria-Arab League Kofi Annan and UNSG Special Adviser for Cyprus Alexander Downer.

OZERASAY EVALUATED HIS MOSCOW CONTACTS
The President’s Special Representative Kudret Özersay has evaluated his latest contacts in the Russian capital Moscow. Özersay said that his diplomatic contacts had been useful and successful.

Speaking to Bayrak Haber, the President’s Special Representative said that the aim of his contacts were to share with all parties related to the Cyprus Problem, the Cyprus Turkish Side’s views concerning steps to be taken to ensure a successful outcome from the ongoing negotiations process.

“I think we were successful in doing that. These kinds of initiatives will continue on our behalf” he added.

Reminded that the Greek Cypriot Side refused to take part in a multilateral conference, Özersay said that the negotiations process was in its final phase as stated by the UN Secretary General in the letter he sent to both leaders dated 6th of January.

Responding to a question as to what was the Greek Cypriot Side’s objections to the 1st of July deadline, the President’s Special Representative said “the 1st of July date belongs to the Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias, not us. The Secretary General for his part recorded this date as an official UN position. As a result no one should ask us where how this date emerged”.

REPRESENTATIVES ARE MEETING TODAY

Kudret Özersay the Special Representative of the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Derviş Eroğlu and Yorgos Yakovu the Special Representative of the Greek Cypriot Administration Leader Dimistris Hristofias are meeting today within the framework of negotiation process in order to find a solution to the Cyprus Problem. The meeting will start at 16.00 and the property issue is the topic to be discussed. The Presidents will be coming together on Thursday.

On the other hand Alexander Downer the Special Advisor of the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon to Cyprus will inform the UN Security Council on 29th of March and he will report his evaluation about the Cyprus Issue to Moon on Friday. Following his report Moon will either made a call for a multilateral conference or will announce an end to the goodwill mission.

ANASTASIADIS: “POLICY OF HRISTOFIAS HAS FAILED”

Leader of the Greek Cypriot Opposition Party DISY, Nikos Anastasiadis stated that policy of the Greek Cypriot Leader Dimistris Hristofias about Cyprus issue has failed.

According to the Greek Cypriot Newspaper Alithia Anastasiadis stated that it is nearly impossible to continue the dialogue during the time of the EU term Presidency of the Greek Cypriot Side so that it would be necessary to appoint a new negotiator for the continuation of the process.
