EROĞLU “OUR EFFORTS CONTINUE IN ORDER TO EXPLAIN THE FACTS”

TRNC President DerviÅŸ EroÄŸlu stated that their efforts continue in order to inform the international actors concerning the Cyprus problem and to explain the facts in Cyprus, however the facts have not been acknowledged. EroÄŸlu pointed out that TRNC former President Mehmet Ali Talat also made efforts for a viable agreement in Cyprus as well as himself and added that Turkish Cypriot people have a desire for an agreement, so Greek Cypriot people should be motivated in this way.

Eroğlu said “I cannot say that Greek Cypriot people have a desire for a solution in Cyprus like the Turkish Cypriot people. We are the sole side who puts forward proposals at the negotiation table, but we could not reach an agreement till today”.

BAGIS: “WE WILL NOT REMAIN SILENT AGAINST SPOILED ATTIDUDES OF THE GREEK CYPRIOTS”

Turkey’s Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis said: “We will not remain silent against the Greek Cypriots’ spoiled attitudes preventing a settlement. We have been negotiating with the Greek Cypriot administration which is spoiled by international community.”

Receiving President of the Turkish Cypriot Union of Parliamentarians Vedat Celik and his Deputy Ahmet Otuken at his office yesterday, Bagis said that Cyprus was a national cause for Turkey and added that Turkey had been always supporting the TRNC and would continue to do it.

Pointing out that the most important process was the settlement process in Cyprus for Turkey, Bagis continued:

“We will continue to support the TRNC in every way. We will not keep silent against the Greek Cypriots’ spoiled attitudes preventing a settlement. We have been negotiating with the Greek Cypriot administration which is spoiled by the international community. We always try to meet demands of the TRNC and the Turkish Cypriot people. The Greek Cypriot administration is now weaker and more powerless than ever, while the increasing potential of Turkey is clearly evident.”

LEADERS TO MEET TOMORROW

Negotiations will continue tomorrow under the auspices of UN. President Dervis Eroglu and Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias will come together in the buffer zone at 10:00 am.

The meeting will take place at the residence of UN Secretary General’s Special Representative for Cyprus, Lisa Buttenheim and the leaders will continue to discuss the issue of ‘property’.

PRESIDENT EROGLU MET DOWNER

It was stated that President Dervis Eroglu received UN Secretary General’s Special Advisor for Cyprus, Alexander Downer. Downer participated in the meeting with a broad UN delegation. Presidential Spokesman Osman Ertug and negotiation delegation accompanied the President Eroglu.

UN Secretary General’s Special Advisor for Cyprus Alexander Downer said that negotiations have been continuing slower than they desired but they demand much more development. Downer also added that he will submit progress report to the UN Secretary General related to Cyprus issue at the end of next week.

Moreover, Downer said that Turkish Cypriot side behaved clearly by expressing that continuing the negotiations after 1st. July will have no meaning, Downer reminded that UN Secretary General wants a solution until 1 July and said ‘we will see what happens’.
