WE WILL NOT WAIT FOREVER

It was stated that the aim for reaching a solution until 1 July is continuing but if a solution shall not be reached because of the uncompromising attitude of the Greek Cypriot Administration, we will not wait forever.

According to the Anadolu Agency, during yesterday’s meeting of the President Dervis Eroglu and Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, Turkey’s support for Cyprus negotiation process was repeated and aim for reaching a solution until 1 July was confirmed.

It was also stressed during the meeting that Turkish Cypriot side has been doing whatever is necessary to reach a solution and this will continue.

Moreover, Greek Cypriot Administration stated that they will be ready to continue the negotiations during their EU Term Presidency in the second half of 2012. According to the Greek Cypriot radio, Greek Cypriot leader Christofias expressed in his speech that both processes will be parallel and negotiations will be independent from the term presidency.

EMU BEAT ITS OWN RECORD

Rector of the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Prof. Dr. Abdullah Öztoprak made a statement and said that EMU beat its own record and 4914 new students have registered to the different faculties in the academic year 2011-2012. Öztoprak underlined that a total of 13,700 students registered to TRNC Universities in 2011-2012 and EMU received the biggest amount of this number. Öztoprak underlined that EMU has students from 68 different countries.

GAU SIGNED AN AGREEMENT WITH AL-ISRA

Girne American University (GAU) signed an academic agreement with Jordanian University Al-Isra. According to the statement of the GAU, the agreement signed by the vice Chancellor of GAU Asım Vehbi and the Rector of the Al-Isra University Prof. Numan Ahmad Elkhatib. In the statement it was also pointed out that by the agreement signed between the two institutions the parties agreed on; mobility of the academic staff, participation in mutual research activities, seminars and academic meetings and the agreement will also give chance to Jordanian students and the academic staff to participate in the exchange programs between different campuses of GAU and Al-Isra.

MARKULLI HAS NOT BEEN INVITED TO ISTANBUL

It has been stated that Ankara has not invited Greek Cypriot Foreign Affairs Minister Erato Kozaku Markulli to the meeting of “Friends of Syria” which will be held on 2 April in İstanbul, Turkey.

Greek Cypriot daily Politis commented that this matter is a “new horror film” between Turkey and South Cyprus, and stated that South Cyprus has been trying to convince their EU partners that participation of MArkulli in this meeting is a matter of principle for the ‘27’s’.

The newspaper stated that the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton has made a call to Ankara for “the invitation of Greek Cypriot Foreign Affairs Minister”.

The resources in EU supporting Turkey stated that Markulli’s not being invited to the meeting is an inadequate development but the seriousness the Syrian issue does not allow the sabotage of this meeting due to South Cyprus.

“I CAN CLOSE THE CHECK-POINTS”

Greek Cypriot Archbishop Hrisostomos overwhelmed Ambassadors of EU countries with his statements.

Hrisostomos who brought the restoration of Apostolos Andreas into agenda, said “Either my master builder will go to Apostolos Andreas or we will close the check-points”.

Greek Cypriot daily Alithia stated that Archbishop has overwhelmed the Ambassadors of EU countries and qualified his attitude as rugged.
