PRESIDENT EROGLU IS GOING TO ANKARA
TRNC President Derviş Eroğlu is going to Ankara on Tuesday in order to honor an invitation by President of Turkey Abdullah Gül. According to the statement from the TRNC Presidency Mr. President will be accompanied by the TRNC Foreign Minister Hüseyin Özgürgün, President’s Special Representative Kudret Özersay, Property expert Serden Hoca and one of the members of the negotiation delegation of the Turkish Cypriot Side Güneş Onar. The President and the delegation will turn back to North Cyprus on the same day following the contacts in Ankara.
DISCOMFORT IN EU
According to the news of the Greek Cypriot Newspaper Politis, European Union is unhappy with the approach of Syria and South Cyprus who is going to be the term president of the Union on 1st July. It was noted in the news that South Cyprus is claimed as the voice of Russia in Brussels and the criticism of Sarkozy was mentioned related to the policies of the Greek Cypriot Administration Leader Dimitris Hristofias about the EU.
The Newspaper also underlined that at first Hristofias stated that EU must not be involved in the regions where Arab Spring is going on however he made a paradox by saying he is the supporter of the EU policies just after Sarkozy criticized him by saying ‘EU can not stay away from these issues’. It was pointed out in the news that the main base of the discomfort in the EU is just because South Cyprus authorities has released Russian flagged cargo ship carrying tons of munitions to go to Syria in January.
UNEMPLOYMENT INCREASES IN THE SOUTH
It was stated that the number of unemployed workers exceeded 37.000 in February in South Cyprus. According to the Greek Cypriot daily Fileleftheros, the number of registered unemployed workers was 32.247 in January but it reached to 37.874 in February.
According to Statistics Department, the rate of unemployment increased 27.1% contrary to February of the last year. It was indicated that construction and trade sectors are leading the unemployment issue.
Fileleftheros also noted that some Greek people from Greece also come to Cyprus leaving alone their children because of economic crisis and they try to find a job.
Speaking to the Fileleftheros newspaper, Head of the Federation of Cyprus Greeks Union Hristos Yannupolis said that Greek people come to Cyprus with one way tickets and they are ready to do every kind of job.
