EROÄžLU: “WE WANT A SOLUTION WHICH WILL CARRY US TO BETTER CONDITIONSâ€
President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus DerviÅŸ EroÄŸlu stated that they are negotiating to find a solution to Cyprus Problem in order to carry the Turkish Cypriot People to better conditions. If the solution will carry the Turkish Cypriot people to a worst condition then they will not approve an agreement he said.
President Eroğlu underlined that they are working to find a proper solution and if it can not be possible just because of the Greek Cypriot Administration and due to the fact that its leader Hristofias is rejecting all the proposals put forward by the Turkish Cypriot Side, it means Turkish Cypriot side must find another way to continue. President also said ‘We will continue to negotiate however if we can not reach a solution we will make an evaluation with our people as we are not in a desperate situation since we have our state and motherland Turkey, we can continue our existence as it is and the world has to see the intransigent attitude of the Greek Cypriot side. We are trying to show the intransigence of the Greek Cypriot side to the world but the world is keeping their eyes completely shut.
President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus DerviÅŸ EroÄŸlu mentioned that he still have a belief that there will be a solutions in the parameters of the negotiation process however as the Greek Cypriot Administration will become the term President of the EU on 1st July 2012 which will be followed by the elections in South the negotiation process will be blocked and it will be meaningless to negotiated after 1st July 2012.
ÖZGÜRGÜN “CONTINUATION OF NEGOTIATIONS IS NOT POSSIBLE UNLESS CYPRUS PROBLEM IS SOLVEDâ€
TRNC Foreign Affairs Minister Hüseyin Özgürgün stated that “unfortunately†the progress desired in the negotiations has not been provided yet, and said “the Greek Cypriot leadership refuses to make fruitful negotiations and to enter into a give-and-take process with the logic of win-winâ€.
Stating that TRNC President Derviş Eroğlu and leader of Greek Cypriot administration have made 5 tripartite meetings with UN Secretary General, but despite of constructive proposals of Turkish Cypriot side, Greek Cypriot side refused all proposals and also has not proposed anything, Özgürgün pointed out that Turkish Cypriot side continues to make efforts for finding a just and lasting solution for the Cyprus problem with the full support of Turkey and on the basis of UN parameters.
Özgürgün emphasized that unless a solution is found before Greek Cypriot administration undertakes EU Term Presidency on 1st July 2012, continuation of the negotiations will not be possibleâ€.
OZERSAY: ‘WE ARE TRYING TO FINISH JOINT DOCUMENT OF UNDERSTANDING’
It was stated that representatives of the leaders met in the buffer zone to discuss the Property issue. Special Representative of the President, Kudret Ozersay said that they have been trying to finish the joint document of understanding which will help to solve the Property issue until the end of March. Ozersay added that this document came on the agenda with the demand of the UN Secretary General during Greentree summit. Reminding that Turkish Cypriot side made a proposal on this issue during Greentree summit but it was not accepted, Ozersay said ‘We want to finish the joint document of understanding until the end of March. UN tries to help both sides with their opinions’. Stressing that they submitted some of their views related to the Property issue to the Greek Cypriot side, Ozersay said ‘I hope we finish it until the end of March’.
Upon a question whether Greek Cypriot side gave data to the Turkish Cypriot side or not, Ozersay said ‘data of Property issue are approved mutually. The process is continuing. Mutual approval of data contributes to the negotiations. But, it does not solve the Property issue. A joint document of understanding on the issue of principles and criteria can solve this problem’.
Moreover, speaking about UN Secretary General’s Special Advisor for Cyprus, Alexander Downer, Ozersay said that they will continue to work in harmony with UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon and Downer. Ozersay also underlined that Turkish Cypriot side is decided to take further steps for the solution of Cyprus problem.
Expressing that Turkish Cypriot side is in good relation with Downer, Ozersay said ‘Downer is an experienced politician and diplomat who comes from a federal system as Australia but it does not mean that we support all views of Downer. Downer is spending efforts to reach a solution in Cyprus. Turkish Cypriot side will continue to support Downer’s efforts to reach a fair solution in Cyprus’.
NATIONAL COUNCIL IN A FIGHTING ATMOSPHERE
It has been indicated that the Greek Cypriot National Council has been completed in a fighting atmosphere yesterday and parties except AKEL have not agreed with the actions of Christofias.
Greek Cypriot Politis newspaper published the news as ‘Tension at the National Council’ and wrote that at the National Council meeting yesterday which has been the fourth of such meetings all perspectives towards an agreement related to the Cyprus problem have been vanished.
Newspaper also wrote that the meeting was in an atmosphere of verbal fight and no joint statement has been made at the end of the meeting.
