RAMALLAH - Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas held talks with visiting Jordanian Foreign Minister Hani Mulki at his West Bank headquarters Saturday, Palestinian officials said.
Mulki, who was on the first day of a two-day visit in which he was also expected to meet Israeli leaders, was expected to tell Abbas of Jordan's "readiness to play the go-between" between Israel and the Palestinians.
After meeting Abbas, Mulki was due to hold talks with prime minister Ahmed Qorei before heading to Israel for a meeting with his Israeli counterpart, Silvan Shalom.
On Sunday, he was scheduled to meet Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, Deputy Prime Minister Shimon Peres and Defence Minister Shaul Mofaz.
Mulki's arrival marks the first high-level Jordanian visit to Israel in more than for four years, and comes just two weeks after Amman returned its ambassador.
