ISTANBUL - One more person died in Istanbul after drinking bootleg raki, bringing the death toll this week to 16, officials said on Saturday.
Fikret Yilmaz died in hospital in Istanbul after drinking the fake raki, a popular anise-flavored drink in Turkey.
Meanwhile, 16 others remained hospitalized after drinking fake raki, which was apparently made using methyl alcohol.
Police have raided underground distilleries in Istanbul and other cities, confiscating thousands of bottles of illegally produced raki this week. At least eight people have been charged with involvement in the production of the drink.
