NABLUS, West Bank - A group of Jewish settlers on Saturday attacked a Palestinian farmer near the northern West Bank town of Nablus, Palestinian security sources told AFP.
The man was working his land in Yassuf village near the Tappuah settlement 10 kilometres (six miles) south of Nablus when seven settlers set upon him, punching him and hitting him in the head with a rock, the sources said.
Troops arrived at the scene after the attackers fled and treated the man before taking him to a police station to make a complaint, they said.
It was not clear what happened to the assailants, and Israeli police, who are responsible for all settler-related issues, were not immediately available to comment on the issue.
Earlier, troops arrested a wanted militant from the radical Hamas movement at a checkpoint south of Nablus, the army said.
Further north, troops uncovered two explosive devices planted on a road leading to the Jewish settlement of Mevo Dotan, which lies 15 kilometres (nine miles) south-west of Jenin. The devices were detonated in a controlled explosion, the army said.
