Bulgarian soldier killed in Iraq

SOFIA - A Bulgarian soldier was killed Friday in the south of Iraq while returning to base from a patrol, a spokesman for the Bulgarian defense ministry said.
The soldier, Gardi Gardev, was the eighth Bulgarian to be killed while serving in Iraq.
Gardev, a machinegunner on an armored vehicle, was killed from multiple wounds suffered in an attack while they patrolled of the road to Baghdad in the village of Hamza, some 100 miles (160 kilometers) south of the capital.
The NATO-member country has 450 troops serving in Iraq as part of a multinational contingent under Polish command.
