BAGHDAD - Two US soldiers died Wednesday after being wounded by a homemade bomb, the US army said Thursday, bring to three the total number of American troops killed in action that day.
"The soldiers were on patrol in central Baghdad when their vehicle struck the IED (improvised explosive device) around 9 pm," the army said in a statement, adding that the men died later of their injuries at a combat support hospital.
Earlier Thursday the military announced the death of a US soldier who was killed Wednesday in Iraq's Babil province.
The latest deaths raised to 1,494 the number of US servicemen killed in attacks or accidents in Iraq since the launch of the American-led war to oust Saddam Hussein nearly two years ago, according to Pentagon figures.
