EROGLU : ‘GREEK CYPRIOTS DO NOT NEED AN AGREEMENT’

President Dervis Eroglu said that if the existence of North Cyprus was accepted by United Nations, an agreement would be possible between the two sides until today and added ‘We are not recognized by the world but Greek Cypriot side is recognized and a member of the EU. Above all, they do not need an agreement after submarine resources have been discovered’.

Stating that after he has taken over his mission, he sent a letter to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon in which he promised to continue the negotiations, Eroglu said that Turkish Cypriot side is the side which makes proposals to make an agreement. Indicating that Greek Cypriot side refused each agreement until today, Eroglu said that Greek Cypriots always behaved as they will make a better agreement after refusing each agreement.

‘We shall be hopeful for an agreement until 1 July. Time is limited. When we started negotiations, there were 6 chapters. We put forth our criteria on the issue of territory but we have not discussed the issue of map. If we reach an agreement, we want it to be the primary law of the European Union since the Greek Cypriots open cases at the courts of European Union. We do not want to deal with the European courts after making an agreement. We agreed on the other issues of the EU but we could not agree on this issue’ Eroglu added.

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE TO FREEZER

It has been claimed that the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon has stated that he does not wish that the negotiations being held for the solution of the Cyprus problem to be unsuccessful. Therefore he envisaged that the negotiations shall continue until February 2013 when the presidential elections shall take place in the South Cyprus; in addition it has also been claimed that the international conference shall be ‘put into freezer’.

Greek Cypriot Katimerini newspaper published the news under the headlines “International Conference to ‘Freezer’-UN Secretary General inclined to Feasibility Report- Negotiations even during Negotiations” and claimed that the UN has the intention to make efforts until the last minute before declaring the negotiations which continue for a long time as finished, therefore it has been envisaged that the negotiations shall continue until the presidential elections in the South Cyprus.

In the news it has been also indicated that the UN Secretary General Ban and the international community wished to continue making efforts until the last minute in spite of the fact that they have been ‘fed up’ of the Cyprus problem.

PRESIDENT EROGLU: “ISRAEL WILL BE ASSIGNED A MILIRATY BASE”

TRNC President Derviş Eroğlu has evaluated the convergence between South Cyprus and Israel. Eroğlu stated that although they refuted the reports related with the subject, he believed that the negotiations concerning the assignment of military base to Israel in South Cyprus has begun. The President said “They dissemble this. I will not be surprised if South Cyprus allows Israeli to possess a military base in South Cyprus”.

TRNC President Eroğlu added “South Cyprus wants to use this as a weapon in the negotiations”.

Reminding that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Natenyahu has had a visit to South Cyprus last week; Eroğlu said “Natenyahu has visited the island because he has a benefit” and added that South Cyprus uses the tension between Israel and Turkey as its advantage in the ongoing Cyprus negotiations.

Eroğlu said “There is more than that. Natenyahu wanted his formal plane to be landed in military airport in Baf, but due to the reaction of the oppositions he could not do it. He tried to give a message by landing to a military base”.

VICTIMS OF HOCALI MASSACRE COMMEMORATED IN A MASS RALLY

The Azerbaijanis who were massacred in Nagorno-Karabakh 20 years before by Armenians have been commemorated in LefkoÅŸa by a mass rally. In the mass rally the bill which the French National Assembly recently endorsed making it a crime to deny the World War I-era killings of Armenians constituted genocide was also protested.

TRNC Minister of Finance Ersin Tatar, Minister of Labor and Social Security Şerife Ünverdi and MP of UBP Zorlu Töre participated in the rally which was organized to commemorate the 613 Azerbaijanis who were brutally killed and hundreds are still missing when Armenian troops rushed into the village of Hocalı on February 26, 1992.

Minister Tatar made a speech in the rally and said that the aim of the rally is to show the world that all Turks are in unity and the grief of the massacre is still bitter. Tatar added that the History of Turkish Cypriots are similar to Azerbaijanis as Turkish Cypriots were also faced with massacres however after a heroic period they are having stable days and pointed out ‘we belong to the same nation, with unity and with the support of Turkey we shall end the double standard that the world is applying.’

On the other hand Penah Hüseyin who was the Prime Minister of Azerbaijan in the period of Elçibey stated in the rally that he is happy to commemorate the massacre of Hocalı in TRNC and underlined that it is the grief of all Turkish World and mentioned his belief that it will be over by being in unity.
