ANKARA - Following are the highlights from columnists in today's Turkish dailies.
RESIGNATION DUE TO EXPULSION
According to daily HURRIYET, the resignation of AKP deputy from Istanbul Goksel Kucukali from his party was due to the rejection of his request to stop legal investigation against him on charges of assisting illegal gangs and groups. ''I resign from the AK Party as this party has no respect for human rights, including the right to freely express oneself'' had said Kucukali.
On the other hand Ahmet Hakan, a columnist of the same daily said that the name of Kucukali was most recently mentioned at a national TV talk show by a Turkish investigative journalist Ugur Dundar, referring to Kucukali as a deputy who has helped certain illegal and corrupt groups, for personal gains and interests. Further investigation on Kucukali's recent contacts are being scrutinized by Turkish Justice Ministry officials.
BEST BIDDING COMES FROM TURKEY FOR DUBAI SUBWAY
HURIYET daily, in an exclusive dispatch also indicates that Turkish-Japanese consortium submitted the most appropriate bidding for the construction of Dubai subway project.
The consortium proposed 1.8 billion US dollars for the tender expected to be closed by the end of this year.
''Yapi Merkezi'' from Turkey participates in the consortium with a share of 20 percent. Obayashi, Kajima and Mitsubishi from Japan are also the partners of the consortium.
''Yapi Merkezi Construction and Industry Corp.'' Executive Board Chairman Emre Aykar said Dubai Subway was planned to be completed in two stages, noting four consortiums were considered for the first stage.
Aykar also said Dubai Subway was a project worth of 3.5 billion US dollars.
